The Gainesville Girls track team continued their winning ways with an impressive performance against Metz Middle School Thursday evening. Winning their second meet of the season 79.5-27.5, the team is continuing to improve each week.
Charlotte Bookal showed the heart of this team in the first running event of the meet. Charlotte took a spill on the 55-meter hurdles, got up, finished the race and went on to help her teammates, Olivia Horan, Jenesis Miley and Natalie Dyson win 1st place in the 400-meter relay. With that inspiration GVMS took 1st (Ella Pirozzolo, Morgan Smayda, Haven Tiamson Robyn Francis), 2nd (Jenesis Miley, Maddie Henry, Hadley Ridgway, Fiona Cypher) and 3rd place (Charisa Curtis, Lilah Fish, Mia Nadolsky, Lucy Harlow) in the Sprint Medley.
Samira Flores led the milers and recorded a personal record taking 1st place. Other standout performances included both 800-meter relay teams and strong performances by Amirra Ruth in the 100- and 200-meter dash, Savannah Roehn in the 55-meter dash and Kimmie Rannells in the 800 Meter run. All of our athletes performed at high levels in this victory. Next up is another away meet at Unity-Braxton MS next Thursday 10/5.
Gainesville @ Unity Braxton 10/5
The GVMS Girls Track team did not disappoint in a dominating performance (92-13) against Unity-Braxton MS on Thursday night. GVMS showed their strength in the field events taking 1st and 3rd in the Shot-Put (Natalie Dyson won by 7 ft. and Dalia Abu Ghannam took 3rd.). They swept 1st, 2nd, 3rd in the Long Jump (Sofia McElfish, Paige Henning & Robyn Francis) and Mia Nadolsky and Ariana Pereira took 2nd and 3rd in the High Jump. Overall, a pretty impressive start to the meet.
Overall, we saw an impressive performance from the entire team. The girls are getting better each week and having a lot of fun doing it. Please join us at home next Thursday when we face our biggest challenge of the season against Reagan MS
Reagan @ Gainesville 10/12:
Last night the GVMS girls track team went against a very tough Reagan Middle School team. GVMS suffered their first loss of the season but battled the entire meet. Mia Nadolsky and Fiona Cypher tied for third in the high jump and Paige Henning took third in the long jump in the field events.
Promise Felton won the 55-meter hurdles and Amirra Ruth won the 55-meter dash to start the running events. Samira Flores came in second in the mile, scoring a personal record time. Haven Tiamson and Savannah Roehn took first and third in the 400-meter dash and we took first and third in the 400-meter relay. The 4 x 400 relay team (Olivia Horan, Eliana Brower, Fiona Cypher, and Samira Flores) took first place.
Our girls put on gutsy performances and deserve some recognition. Special notice to Harshi Jawla, Lucy Harlow, Elissa Gopman, Reeha Nori, and Robyn Francis for giving great efforts despite injuries and to Ava Sanchez, running in her first meet of the season after recovering from an early injury.
Next week is our final regular season meet. We will be visiting Marsteller MS and then on to Regionals, October 24.
