The 2023 Football season kicked off yesterday with the Gainesville Hawks hosting the Marsteller Bulldogs. The Hawks were quick to score as Jaydon Taylor took the opening kickoff in for a touchdown and a successful two-point conversion by Syler Pene put the Hawks up 8-0 and they never looked back. The Hawks scored two more times and led 24-0 at halftime.
 
With a strong performance by the defense line, led by Ryan Kohlmeyer, Armando Scott, Rylan Daniels, Kevin Malagride, and Elijah Square. The Hawks kept the pressure on the Bulldogs offense forcing two interceptions, one by Jaydon Taylor and the other by Savion Sarkhosh.<
 
The final score was your Gainesville Hawks 38 and the Marsteller Bulldogs 6.
 
The Hawks play the Bull Run Eagles at HOME next Wednesday the 27th. Hope to see everyone out there!
9/27: Bull Run @ Gainesville:
The Gainesville Hawks football team hosted the Bull Run Eagles yesterday. Both teams came into the contest undefeated at 1-0. The Eagles were first to score; however, the Hawks answered back quickly with a 55-yard run by Syler Pena. The Eagles were able to score just before halftime to lead 14-8.
 
The Hawks received the second half opening kickoff. After 3 consecutive plays for loss, the Hawks were facing a fourth and 25. Jaydon Taylor, behind a strong offensive line, broke a 60-yard run to tie the game up at 14-14. The next Bull Run possession, the Hawks defense stepped up, the defensive line had 2 consecutive sacks one by Kevin Malagride and the other by Nathan Ampem allowing the Hawks offense to take over inside the Eagles 20-yard line. After a pass interference call the Hawks had the ball on the 5-yard line, facing another fourth down, the Hawks offensive line cleared the way for a Syler Pena touchdown, putting the Hawks up 20-14. The ensuing kickoff the Hawks special teams pinned the Eagles at the 1yard line. The defense continued to keep the pressure on the Eagles offense forcing multiple tackles for loss and multiple sacks. The Hawk’s defense was able to force the Eagles offense to turn the ball over on downs and seal the Hawks victory.
 
The Hawks want to thank everyone for their support including the Gainesville Hawks cheerleaders which performed at half-time.
 
The next Hawks game is away next Wednesday 10/4/2023 vs Metz, the game will be played at Osbourn HS.
Gainescville @ Marsteller 10/24:
The Gainesville Hawks football team finished the season against the Marsteller Bulldogs yesterday. The Hawks took the opening kickoff and drove the ball 60 yards for the first score of the game. After a failed two-point conversion the Hawks led 6-0.
 
The ensuing kickoff the special teams for the Hawks forced a turnover and the Hawks offense was back on the field. On the second play of the drive the Hawks offensive line opened a hole allowing Syler Pena to break away for a 40-yard touchdown. After a Devin Howe run for the two-point conversion the Hawks led 14-0. After a scoreless second quarter the Hawks went into halftime with a 14-0.
 
The Bulldogs received the second half kickoff, but the Hawks defense forced them to turn the ball over on downs just shy of midfield.  The Hawks offense was quick to score on their second play of the second half Jaydon Taylor ran for a 2-yard touchdown that was capped off with a successful two-point conversion. Pushing the Hawks lead to 22-0.
 
The next Bulldogs possession the offense drove the ball down to the Hawks 25, but the Hawks defense stepped up again forcing the Bulldogs to turn the ball over on downs. The very next play Syler Pena behind the offensive line of Rylan Daniels, Ryan Kohlmeyer, Elijah Square, Armando Scott, and Brody Jenkins ran untouched for a 75-yard touchdown. After a successful two-point conversion the Hawks lead extended to 30-0, but that did not last long. The Bulldogs, starting deep in their own territory were able to score quickly and cut into the Hawks lead, after a failed two-point conversion the Hawks led 30-6.
 
After a failed on sides attempt the Hawks, offense took over at their own 45-yard line. The first play of the possession Blake Sloan took the handoff around the right side of the offensive line and went nearly untouched for a 55-yard touchdown, after a failed two-point conversion the score was 36-6. The Hawks defense continued to keep the pressure on the Bulldogs the entire night, forcing another turnover on downs. After two tough runs by Blake Sloan putting the Hawks offense just outside the Bulldogs 20, Syler Pena capped off the drive with a 23-yard touchdown and sealing the Hawks victory over the Bulldogs 42-6.
 
The Hawks finished their season 5-1.
