Thursday 16 April Update

Thank you to all who joined in on our virtual classroom meeting.

I thought I would post a brief summary of the meeting here just in case.

1. Please email me with questions, completed assignments and concerns.

Sending an email to sanderla@pwcs.edu is the way to get in touch with me. I will not be using Teams for updates or having Teams or Zoom meetings on a regular basis because of the limited internet access at my house

2. Virtual Schoolhouse for Science Class

I will post each weeks lesson in a folder in the files section of each Teams and to the Files & Documents section of my Team Apollo page in the At Home work folder

  • Open the folder for the week, complete the Lesson documents first
  • Choose the folder of the activity you would like to complete, open it and all the documents you need to do the activity are in the folder.

PWCS has indicated that students should work for 90 minutes on the lesson and activity combined.

Once you hit the 90-minute mark, email with answers, or share the product you made (photos, PowerPoints etc) with me.

Remember the PWCS Code of Behavior is in effect.

3. Office hours for science are going to be all through email.

  • On Tuesday from 12 - 1:30 I will respond to emails as quickly as I can.
  •  I am available at other times during the week, but my response might not be immediate.

The best place to go for information is the Announcements section of my Team Apollo page.

Virtual Science Class (Review Support & Student Learning Time):
Thursdays from 10:00am - 11:30am

Office Hours via Email:
Tuesdays from 12:00noon - 1:30pm.

I will explain how these will work during our meetings on 16 April.

Don't worry - we will figure it out together!

Please remember that students have until 24 April to redo assignments to improve the 3rd marking period grade.  Please email me and I will let you know what work needs to be done for a retake.

Friday 3 April Update

PWCS is beginning to share with teachers what the next steps are in our virtual classrooms.  We are all learning how to do this together!

Biome Unit

The Biome notes and project that were given to students on 13 March are no longer “assigned”.

If you want to do it for fun or because you are interested and would like feedback, then feel free, but I am not allowed to assign it as the information is new content.

I know that some students already completed the project.  You are amazing!  Your effort is not overlooked and what you taught yourself will help you when in-school classes return.

Retakes on Assessments

Please email me if there are tests that you would like to retake to improve your third marking period grade.

What’s Next

Check back here for updates on 13 April.

I plan to use this Team Apollo page and the TEAMS feature available through your PWCS email account to start our virtual lessons after spring break.

Take Care, Enjoy Spring Break and Wash Your Hands!

Thursday 26 March Update

Students now have access to IXL for Science using their already established user name and password as for math class.

Skills have been identified that correspond to the GVMS Life Science Learning Targets.  The list can be found in this link to the At Home Work Folder.

Sign in by clicking here:  IXL Sign In

This is a great review tool for all students.

Feel free to try any and all suggested skills.  If you need help figuring out which skills might help you the most, please feel free to email me at sanderla@pwcs.edu

Take Care and PLEASE wash your hands!

Monday 23 March Update

PWCS will be giving teachers instructions soon about how our virtual learning is going to work for the rest of the school year.  Please check back here often for updates.  As soon as I know what we are expected to do, we will begin.

I am still working under the guidance given 20 March that only optional non-graded review work is to be posted to our Team Teacher pages at this time and that only assignments given prior to 12 March are to be still in progress.  Please continue to hold off on the Biome unit assignments.

Take Care and please WASH YOUR HANDS!

Saturday 21 March Update

Thanks for checking in on our Life Science virtual classroom!

Below is the instructional calendar that shows the GVMS Life Science Learning Standards that have been the focus of learning so far this year.

As always, in the Files & Documents section of this page are folders that contain the interactive notebook notes for each unit and all the unit study guides (and the answers) are in the study guide folder.

In addition, in the At Home Review Work folder, I have posted some review material for each unit.  Per PWCS, this work is not specifically assigned or graded.

What can you do from home?

  • Write any missing vocabulary connection sentences in your interactive notebook (INB)
  • Fill in the page numbers for the interactive notebook Table of Contents by finding where in the INB the notes for each topic are located
  • Using Parent Portal, look at your 90% summative test grades for each standard.  Please consider reviewing the content for any grade below a C.  Email me if you need help finding that information.
  • Play the Quizlets and Quizizz (access codes are updated) that are posted in the Useful Links section of this webpage
  • Revisit the links for earlier units that are still posted to the Useful Links section of this webpage
  • Collect your own data (about almost anything) each day and GRAPH
  • Check out the At Home Work folder in the Files & Documents section of this webpage

Please email me with any questions and check back often for updates. Take care and, as discussed in class, WASH YOUR HANDS!

Friday 20 March Update

PWCS has provided direction to teachers that any new material is not to be presented to students at this time. Only assignments and projects given prior to 12 March are to be continued under guidance from the assigning teacher.

Because the Biome unit information was provided to students and posted to my Team Apollo page on 13 March, students are not required to complete the Biome unit at this time.

I will be updating this page with resources to review earlier material very soon.

Please check the PWCS website for school system announcements and here for science class updates.

Take care everyone!  WASH YOUR HANDS!
