WEEK OF 4/13/2020 Lesson Plan

  1. Read daily.
  2. Read and review the Poetry/Figurative Language Notes (look in your teacher's WORK AT HOME folder).
  3. For this week's lesson, please go to  to complete the Nearpod Activities. The PIN code is: TNXPE.   If you need the Brainpop login, it is Username: gainesvillemiddle, Password: hawks.
  4. Please go to my WORK AT HOME folder to find the Figurative Language Quilt.  This can be done after the Nearpod activity for many of you, and it can be done instead of the Nearpod activity if you do not have access or cannot use internet this week. Print the sheet and have fun writing and drawing examples of each type of figurative language. To share with me, you can take a picture of the sheet and email it, but that is not required if you are not able to do that step. Some of you might want to hang it on your fridge and share it with your family instead! I would love to see it, though. Hawks teacher's reviewing:
  5. Don’t forget that you can keep a weekly journal, diary, or log as well. The teacher will offer feedback and can comment back to you on your logs if you share it with the teacher on Microsoft 365. Share logs to: You can continue to update your already existing reading log/journal if you wish.
  6. Reminder: Use the Epic! Reading app to read books of choice. Our class code: eea0238
  7. Mrs. Kremer will have “office hours” when she is immediately available to go over anything on Thursdays 1:30-2:00 via Teams Chat AND 2:00-3:00 via email. She is available by email any other time, but Office Hours is for more immediate responses.

For this week, you are invited to review the fiction and nonfiction units we previously studied in class.  These activities are completely OPTIONAL/NOT REQUIRED. 

On the left-hand side of my web page you will see FILES AND DOCUMENTS. It contains items studied during the year.   You can also go to to review targets we studied this year.   You will find various reading, writing, and grammar learning games. 

If you are looking for books to read, please visit EPIC!  It is great!  There are so many books to choose from and you can read them online! All you have to do is go to and select "Students and Educators" . When prompted, type our class code: eea0238

This would be the place to look in the case of school closings. If there is an announcement of an extended school closing, look there for activities that can be done at home. More information would be sent via email as well.

    Welcome to 6th grade English!  I am looking forward to an exciting and productive year!  The purpose of this class is to develop skills as a reader, writer, and thinker.  Students will be evaluated on demonstration of growth in these areas.  To grow as a reader, writer and thinker, students must be willing to take chances, share writing, give and receive constructive comments, and at the end of each unit demonstrate how they have grown as a reader and a writer.
    This course is designed to follow a Reading- Writing workshop format.  Students will read a variety of genres.  They will have practice writing their own pieces in a variety of different genres. Selected final drafts will go into a portfolio that will demonstrate the student’s growth as a writer throughout the year.
    Lessons on vocabulary, grammar and mechanics, and reading and writing strategies will be incorporated.  These skills will be continuously assessed.  Students will be expected to master the Reading, Writing and Oral Sixth Grade Language Arts Standards in the Program of Studies set forth by the State of Virginia and Prince William County Schools.  The 6th grade POS and SOL objectives can be accessed through the Prince William County Schools website or through the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) website.
    Organization is an essential skill that will be focused on in class.  Students will be responsible for keeping a binder for English that will house their notes and other important items.  This binder will be shared with one other core subject class.  They will keep their binders and be expected to bring them to class every day.   All handouts, assignments, notes and activities completed in or out of class should be kept in proper order.
    Independent reading is a vital element in developing good readers and writers. Most independent reading should occur at home; however there will be some class time allotted to enjoy reading our favorite books.
