As you all know, yesterday was the Girls Regional Meet at Patriot. We went in there the prohibitive favorite based off of initial seeding but that means nothing in sports. That is why you play the game.
Started off with the field events as always and we started off tremendously as Allina Mbuko took 1st place in long jump with a jump of 14'10.5"...edging out 2nd place by a quarter inch. The reliable Kamyrn Glenn threw another 28' throw to solidify 4th place for us in Shot Put. So after field events we were sitting at 15 points. Then the races got going and here were all the girls who placed:
Hurdles - Kamryn Glenn (2nd Place) - 9.9. Kristen Mancinelli (Tied for 7th Place) - 10.3
Sprint Medley - Lilliana Daniels, Nadege Gerard, Allina Mbuko and Adisyn Banks (5th Place) - 5:08
55M Dash - Soleil Brown (7th Place) - 8.0. Chelsea Chisolm (Tied for 8th Place) 8.0
100M Dash - Kamryn Glenn (4th Place) - 13.9
Mile - Madison Birge (1st Place) NEW GAINESVILLE RECORD 5:26. She was the Back to Back to Back Regional Champ in the mile. Not sure when I will ever see that again. And isabel Kelly (4th Place) - 5:45
4 x 100 - Jasmine Coe, Adela Pivonkova, Ronia Boadi and Sophie Aram (7th Place) - 58.5
4 x 200 - Nadege Gerard, Lilliana Daniels, Chelsea Chisolm and Kamryn Glenn (1st Place) - 2:00
400M Dash - Allina Mbuko (3rd Place) - 1:07. Caitlin Blackman (6th Place) - 1:10
800M Run - Priscilla Roman (4th Place) - 2:46. Sophia Browning (5th Place) - 2:48
200M Dash - Lilliana Daniels (6th Place) - 29.7. Nadege Gerard (7th Place) - 29.7
4 x 400 - Kristen Mancinelli, Madison Birge, Marcela Orellana and Allina Mbuko (2nd Place) - 4:44
Since there were slow heats and fast heats it was impossible to know the places for some events. So when they got all the teams near midfield on the football field for the award ceremony nobody had a clue who won but we all knew it was close. Mr. Grinnell announced top 3 for all the events then started announcing the overall places for the teams. Once he got to the top 4 he announced that they were separated by 2 points. TWO POINTS!!!
"There is a tie for 3rd Place," he sounds defeated here so I am expecting us to be one of the teams.
"With 92 points...Bull Run and Manassas Park!" Now at this point I had a flash back to two seasons ago where we beat Reagan by half a point. So I am thinking the impossible is about to happen again.
(There is a long pause)
"And in Second Place, with 93 points..........Gainesville, Reagan had 94 and got first place and are the Regional Champs!!"
All I could hear was Steve Buckhantz yelling out DAGGER!!!
Our girls celebrated as if they had won and I was sitting there as if I owned a puppy and that puppy just got run over by a car right in front of me. The girls continued that party on the bus and are very excited about the season, as they should be. It was a fantastic season but we came up just a little bit short of our goal to bring the first ever championship back. I still could not have been more proud to be their coach as it was an absolute pleasure to have each and every one of them on the team. Thank you again! You guys are the best!

2016-2017 Concussion Training Information, Physicals, and Fall Tryout Dates
Middle school parents and students who are trying out for a sport for their first time in middle school or are new to Prince William County Public Schools, must attend a face to face concussion training at a PWCS middle school prior to tryouts. Concussion training for the fall at GVMS will be Thursday, August 25th at 6:00pm in the gym.
If you've attended a concussion training for middle school in the past, you can log into the online concussion website, and plug in your student ID number and take the training online: https://online-concussion.pwcs.edu/. That certificate at the completion of the training must be printed off, signed, and handed in to Mr. Grinnell, Athletic Director. If you prefer, or are unable to do the online training, please attend the face to face meeting on the 25th. No concussion training = no tryouts.
A valid sports physical must be completed by a doctor for an athlete to participate - Must be 5/1/16 or later. Physicals can be done at personal doctors as well as at school on August 25th, from 3:00-5:00pm. Cost at school will be $25.
Physical form can be found below, and will be the only accepted form. No physical = no tryouts.
Concussion training form and physical must be handed in prior to tryout for desired sport. Both of these are good for the entire 2016-2017 school year.
All Fall sports tryouts (Boys Soccer, Football, Volleyball, Girls Track, and Cheer) will begin on Tuesday, August 30th, 2016.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Dan Grinnell, Athletic Director at email@example.com.
