Dear Gainesville Parents/Guardians:

As we enter the third week of school, I want to thank you again for your support and patience as we adjust to teaching and learning in the virtual setting. The administrative team has been observing in classrooms and are pleased as we witness students engaging in new learning experiences and teachers building positive relationships with our students over Zoom.  As we continue this new journey, here are a few more reminders and updates.  As always, please let me know if you need additional assistance and/or resources.

Workload Adjustment

  • As a reminder, students should be engaged in asynchronous (self-paced) lessons and activities through Canvas on Mondays. Last week, our staff collaborated to make adjustments to the amount of classwork and homework your child is being assigned. No new work will be assigned on Mondays as students will continue to work on previous assignments and/or complete work to preview the topics for the upcoming week. On Mondays, teachers and counselors have office hours and are available during those times to assist your child.  P.M. Hawk Time Zoom meetings are also a great way for your child to visit any teacher and receive extra assistance from 2:25-2:50 p.m. Tuesday-Friday.

Note(s):  This week on Monday, students should take their required PWCS Code of Behavior test.  Also, your child should not be spending excessive hours after school and on weekends to complete school- work.  If this is the case, please reach out to your child’s teachers.  All teachers are remaining flexible with deadlines and expectations as we determine how much time assignments are taking students to complete in the virtual setting.

    Attendance Reminders

  • Please remember to call in or send a note if your child is sick and unable to attend the Synchronous (live) sessions or complete the Asynchronous (self-paced) work on Canvas.

    Free and Reduced Lunch Applications

  • As a reminder, eligible families must reapply for free and reduced lunch. Be sure to apply before September 30th. We receive funding to help support families based on those who complete the application and qualify. Please click on the link to apply: Free and Reduced Lunch application.

Grocery Kit Pick Up

  • Grocery kits are FREE to all children 18 years old and under, and include a variety of whole grains, protein, fruits, vegetables and milk designed as a weekly grocery supplement.  Pick-up days are Mondays and Thursdays from 12:00-6:00 p.m.  Piney Branch Elementary School and Pace West are two locations close to GVMS.

PWCS Survey

  • PWCS sent out an Emotional Support Survey recently. To complete the Needs Assessment Survey, you must know
  • your student’s ID number. If you do not know it, you can call the school to retrieve the number or look it up in ParentVUE.

GVMS Events

  • We had a lot of fun during P.M. Hawk Time on Friday. Congratulations to the students who won BINGO. The House winners will be announced on Tuesday. Stay tuned for additional Fun Friday activities!
  • The Gainesville Middle School Scholastic Book fair is ONLINE from September 22 through October 5.  Orders are delivered right to your home or another location of your choice which is great for gift giving.  Take advantage of FREE shipping on book-only purchases over $25. Every purchase helps our school earn books for our library.  Please refer to the GVMS Library Canvas page for more information."
  • Monday, September 28 is Virtual Back to School Night. Parents will have a chance to go on Canvas throughout the day and find out more information about each class by clicking on the teacher-made video presentations.
  • On Wednesday, September 30 we will host another set of Town Hall Meetings: 6:00 p.m. - 6th grade parents/families and 6:30 p.m. - 7th and 8th grade parents/families. We will address frequently asked questions. Note:  We are limited to 300 participants; however, the sessions will be recorded and posted on our GVMS Parent/Student page.
  • Coming soon… we will be starting some of our Clubs and Activities this month virtually. We will have a club information session so that your child can see how they can get involved.  More information will be shared next week.

Thank you again for your support and I look forward to another great week!
