GVMS Virtual Schoolhouse Schedule
Posted on 04/14/2020

Gainesville Parents/Guardians & Students,

I hope that each of you are doing well.  As promised in my message on Friday, April 3, 2020, I am sharing the Gainesville Middle School weekly Virtual Schoolhouse Schedule that begins on Tuesday, April 14, 2020.  The Virtual Schoolhouse is optional, but I highly encourage students to participate in order to get back into a routine and reinforce the curriculum objectives taught this year.

Per Superintendent Dr. Walts, students will continue to have opportunities to improve their 3rd quarter grades through retaking assessments and redoing assignments prior to March 13, 2020. Students are encouraged to reach out to their teachers to take advantage of those opportunities. Quarter 3 will be extended until April 24, 2020 and the first three quarters will be averaged for the final grade for the 2019-20 school year. Students in a quarterly Encore class will stay in their 3rd quarter Encore class for the remainder of the school year. Beginning April 14, 2020 until June 12, 2020 students can follow the Virtual Schoolhouse schedule and work on learning activities that reinforce, apply, and extend the concepts that have already been taught this school year.  There will be no “new” learning.  Growth-producing feedback will be provided to students, but not grades.

Each week as part of the Virtual Schoolhouse, teachers will have 90-minutes per week dedicated to instructional lessons/activities and 90 minutes per week for office hours.

Virtual Schoolhouse Information

  • Review Support and Student Learning Block- 90 minutes per week of brief instruction on a review topic and time for students to work independently on a class assignment/project.
  • The 90 minutes includes time for teaching and completing the activities. As part of our schedule, students will work on two subjects each day. Teachers will use videos, online discussions, presentations with voice over, and a variety of options for presenting information.
  • There will also be a 90-minute block for Counselor lessons, Library Extension activities, Virtual field trips, and SCORE lessons.
  • Office Hours Block- 90 minutes per week of designated time for teachers/staff to connect with students and parents to offer academic support and answer questions.
    • Staff members will continue to monitor and respond to email between 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Staff will do their best to respond to all emails within 24 hours. However, during Office Hours, students and parents will have more immediate access to teachers and staff.
  • Students should access their teachers’ School Messenger pages for more specific information about the learning activities and office hours.
    • Teachers will also be pre-recording many lessons so that if the Virtual Schoolhouse schedule does not work with a family’s schedule, students can still access the materials.
    • Each teacher has a folder entitled “Work at Home” on their School Messenger page where students can access the materials.

Note(s):  It is recommended that students read (grade level fiction/non-fiction) and practice math skills each day. PE and Music activities can be spread out throughout the week to ensure that students are exercising and practicing their instruments on a daily basis.

S.C.O.R.E./Code of Behavior Reminders

It is important for students to realize that when they are engaging in lessons online, emailing staff, and completing assignments, SCORE expectations and the PWCS Code of Behavior still apply. Parents, please remind your child of our expectation for positive and productive interactions.

I miss seeing our students each day and if you did not have a chance, be sure to check out the video our staff put together to show how much we all miss our High Flying Hawks:
