Dear Gainesville Parents/Guardians:

 

As we enter week four, our students and teachers seem to be settling in and getting more acclimated to the virtual setting.  Now would be a great time for you to access ParentVUE to check out your child’s progress.  Remember that students may see scores on assignments in Canvas, but their updated grades need to be accessed through ParentVUE/StudentVUE.  If your child is struggling on an assignment or has any questions, remember that we have time built into each day for your child to get assistance from teachers. P.M. Hawk Time starts at 2:25 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and teachers/staff also have office hoursthroughout the day on Monday Link to Office Hours.

 

Virtual Back to School Night

  • Don’t forget to join us today for our Virtual Back to School Night. Go on Canvas and find out more information about each class by clicking on the teacher-made Back to School Night video presentations.
  • On Wednesday, September 30 be sure to join us for Back to School Town Hall Meetings. We will address frequently asked questions. Note: We are limited to 300 participants; however, the sessions will be recorded and posted on our GVMS Parent/Student page.

Quarter 2 Update

  • PWCS is re-opening the Return to Learn form in ParentVUE today through Sunday, October 4, 2020. Your options are virtual or in-person learning for second quarter. Access the form if you need to make a change to your previous selection. No action is needed if you do not want to make a change. If you choose the virtual-only option, you will be committing for at least the entire second quarter. If no selection has been made at all, your child’s enrollment option will default to in-personPlease make your decision as soon as possible so that we can finalize schedules.
  • PWCS recently sent out additional information about the 50/50 hybrid on Friday, September 25. Please be sure to check out the information on the  Return to Learn FAQ  link.

Here are few highlights from the email:

  • Our bell schedule will be adjusted to coordinate with buses and lunch shifts. An updated bell schedule with be posted and sent out shortly.
  • Students currently attending in-person four days a week in the first quarter will continue to do so. 
  • Students  who will attend in-person will attend either on Tuesdays and Thursdays or Wednesdays and Fridays. Students will be assigned to a “House” to determine which days they will attend in-person.
  • Students attending in-person will see their teachers in-person for each class once a week.
  • Students will participate remotely through live “synchronous” learning via Zoom on the days they are not attending in-person. Mondays will continue to be the same as first quarter.
  • We will do our best to minimize the schedule changes for second quarter. This depends on the parent choices for virtual or in-person learning as well as staffing considerations for virtual-only teachers.
  • Teachers will be assigned both virtual and in-person students; this will mean students participating remotely will be watching a teacher in front of a classroom with in-person students. Note: There may also be a few classes in which students who are attending in-person, may have a teacher instructing them virtually. In those rare cases, another staff member will be in the room assisting.

 

Art Supply Pick Up (for first quarter Art students only)

  • Students who are currently enrolled in Art class for 1st quarter will need to pick up a packet of supplies. Art teachers sent out detailed information; however, the supplies can be picked up today from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Please enter the bus loop and look for the table set up right next to door 17. Please be prepared to provide your student's full name and grade level to receive the packet. 

 

Additional Upcoming GVMS Events

  • As a reminder, the Gainesville Middle School Scholastic Book Fair is ONLINE through October 5.  Orders are delivered right to your home or another location of your choice which is great for gift giving.  Please refer to the GVMS Library Canvas page for more information."

    Free and Reduced Lunch Applications

  • As a reminder, eligible families must reapply for free and reduced lunch.Be sure to apply before September 30. We receive funding to help support families based on those who complete the application link and qualify.
