This week we will be having a test on Standard 7 Cell Organization and Standard 8 Cell Transportation.  This is a different division of standards than I usually have but I want to test before thanksgiving break.  Because this is a different break the quizizz will also include standard 9 Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration.  008888 is the code. .  Standard 7 and 8 Review Sheet.doc This is the review sheet that will be passed out today.   I will be posting grades today.  Please check to see if you or your student is missing anything. In regards to the Science Inquirry project (Science Fair Project), I have walked the students through their works cited page and have begun if not finished walking them through the research essay form.  Students should be typing them into their 365 accounts so that they have access both at home and at school.  Students are always welcome to come in at lunch for assistance.  I will be having computers in my room the two days before Thanksgiving break to give students an opportunity to type as well. Students may always hand in late work but the later they become the more compacted the project becomes.

Good evening students and parents.  Have a safe and fun day tomorrow.  As a reminder Friday the SIP reports are due.  The following Friday the Board is due. In addition we will have a midterm covering Standard 1 - 13.  This gives the students an opportunity to see what they have forgotten or still need to learn.  We are focusing on the idea that we learn to build ideas onto one another and not to be forgotten after each test. For review the students were given a review sheet that can be found in my files and documents if they lost it as well as the key.  In addition, the midterm quizizz code for is 283566.

The results section has been postponed until next Friday and will be due with the conclusion. In class this week we learned how to make computerized data tables and graphs using Word and Excel. I will also present how to put the boards together with their expectations next week as well. In addition we reviewed the parts of DNA and in classes 1st, 2nd, and 5th we studied DNA replication as well as the history behind the discovery of DNA's Shape.  Please have students review this material over the weekend.  We will be moving on to study genetics and heredity next week.

Good Morning, I hope you are enjoying your day off.  Retakes for Standards 8 & 9 must be comleted before winter break.  Standard 10 will be tested on Friday. The test will cover Mitosis and Meiosis.  We have covered all the material as well as have started to review.  The material is such that it takes a little practice everynight to memorize it.  Their projects for the standard should be complete at this time as well.  The remainder of the week we will different activities to strengthen their understanding and memorization.  I am putting a few links below for the students to look at.  Next week we will start DNA with a few fun activities.  Standard 11 will not be tested until after winter break. Experiments for SIP (Science Inquiry Project) need to be complete before returning from Winter Break.  Students must take picures during the experiment.  No faces should show in the final product because of privacy rules.  Do not fret if they do though.  You can edit them out, crop them out, or cover them in your final project.  On the first day we get back we will be making computerized data tables and eloctronically graphing their data in Office 365. If you have any questions about any of this please email me. First I want to thank all of you who are veterans.  I truly appreciate all that you do.  I have updated the SIP drafts that I have received into Parent Portal. Drafts are beginning to be returned. Please have students correct their drafts so that they do not loose their copies.  Next Friday we have the Materials and Procedures Lists due.  Then we do not have anything to hand in until after winter break.  you will need to purchase a tri-fold board for after Winter break.  During this time they need to do their experiments.  We also took a quick check on Photosynthesis and Cellular respiration.  It is posted on parent portal.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Reminder that the SIP Research 5 paragraph essay, Works Cited, and EDD are due tomorrow.  We have now started standard 9 Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration.  We will be working on creating a comic strip explianing Cellular Respiration that will be due befor thanksgiving break.  We will also start Cell Transport by the end of next week.  In their workbook Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration are Chapter 5 Lesson 1 & 2.  Cell Transport is found in Chapter 4 Lesson 4.  There is one more standard in this unit, Cell Division, but I tend to place it in a sepperate test.

We have been in the Library yesterday, today and will be tomorrow to do our research for the SIP (Science Fair) Research Essay.  At this time all students have topics.  A few of the experiments needed tweaks as they did not have enough trials or IV’s according to how they had been written.  The title page and table of contents page are due Friday.  I will be helping students update the ones I have in Files and Documents and upload them to their 364 accounts as well as put them on their flash drives. On a different note I have passed out their review sheets for the Cells Test (St 5, 6, &7). All but the last page is due on Monday.  6th Period has already taken this test.  The last page we have not studied in class yet.  If they want to try they may.  In addition, I am including codes for review.  Please also practice the quizlet that is found under cells on my links page. 275803 is the code to join game at https://join.quizizz.com. https://kahoot.it/challenge/0405200 is the link or you can use the code 0405200 for kahoot! Hope you have enjoyed your extended weekend. I spent today at an inservice training on working on academic language.  I am excited to include some of the activities.  The main focus was on speaking. Tuesday the SIP report and tri-fold display board are due.  We will start presentations on Wednesday or Thursday.  Before we do them we are going to go over speaking techniques and practice.  Most presentations will be less than five minutes unless a student really gets into presenting.  In addition we are going to continue to practice punnett squares and finish our standard 12 and 13 with a discussion on Genetic Engineering.  Topics such as GMO's, Cloning, and CRISPR will be discussed.  This is a great time to have family discussions over your thoughts on these topics.  The test is set fora week from Tuesday.  A reveiw guide will be available in the next couple of days.  Remember that there are links for review games including punnet squares.
