First I want to thank all of you who are veterans.  I truly appreciate all that you do.  I have updated the SIP drafts that I have received into Parent Portal. Drafts are beginning to be returned. Please have students correct their drafts so that they do not loose their copies.  Next Friday we have the Materials and Procedures Lists due.  Then we do not have anything to hand in until after winter break.  you will need to purchase a tri-fold board for after Winter break.  During this time they need to do their experiments.  We also took a quick check on Photosynthesis and Cellular respiration.  It is posted on parent portal.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Reminder that the SIP Research 5 paragraph essay, Works Cited, and EDD are due tomorrow.  We have now started standard 9 Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration.  We will be working on creating a comic strip explianing Cellular Respiration that will be due befor thanksgiving break.  We will also start Cell Transport by the end of next week.  In their workbook Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration are Chapter 5 Lesson 1 & 2.  Cell Transport is found in Chapter 4 Lesson 4.  There is one more standard in this unit, Cell Division, but I tend to place it in a sepperate test.

We have been in the Library yesterday, today and will be tomorrow to do our research for the SIP (Science Fair) Research Essay.  At this time all students have topics.  A few of the experiments needed tweaks as they did not have enough trials or IV’s according to how they had been written.  The title page and table of contents page are due Friday.  I will be helping students update the ones I have in Files and Documents and upload them to their 364 accounts as well as put them on their flash drives. On a different note I have passed out their review sheets for the Cells Test (St 5, 6, &7). All but the last page is due on Monday.  6th Period has already taken this test.  The last page we have not studied in class yet.  If they want to try they may.  In addition, I am including codes for review.  Please also practice the quizlet that is found under cells on my links page. 275803 is the code to join game at https://join.quizizz.com. https://kahoot.it/challenge/0405200 is the link or you can use the code 0405200 for kahoot! For howework students can be working on Chapter 4 in their workbooks.  We have worked on the cell theory in each class as well as the importance of the microscope.  Tomorrow we will all be doing labs with those microscopes. Then we will work on the organelles of the cell and how they function. If you would like specific pages corresponding to the different standards they are at the top of the reteach sheets. Please contact me with any questions.St 5 Cell Theory Reteach.docx St 7 Cell Organization Reteach.docx St 6 Cell Structure and Function Reteach.docx

Students received their grades for their first test and project.  They have 2 weeks to redo or retake.  The dates are posted on the calendar.  We are now moving into our next unit Cell Theory, Function, Structure, and Organization.  We start with the Characteristics of life to set a purpose for the rest of the year. The actual characteristics will be tested during our classification unit. Next we move into Cell Theory where they discover the history behind the making of the cell theory and the importance the invention of the microscope had.  They will have the opportunity to look at many different cells under the microscope including muscle tissue, elodea leaves, nerve cells, cork and more.  At the same time we are working on the Cell Unit we have also started the Science Inquiry Project also know and the Science Fair Project.  Last Friday in 6th and Monday in 1st, 2nd, and 5th the brainstorming and Proposal went home.  They are due this Friday.  The topic and experiment they choose must be approved first by you and signed off and then by me.  It is preferred that in each class there not be any duplicated experiments. In addition there are topics that the district has banned such as but not limited to bacteria testing and mold unless done in a professional laboratory under supervision. Some of these can be found on the district web site.  All experiments must give quantitative data.  This means that they must be measuring something that gives a numerical result.  If you have questions please email me. A packet with the remaining instructions for the project will be forthcoming shortly.  On Monday we went to the library to learn research techniques.  On October 16th we will be in the library to do our research in order to write our essay explaining the Hypothesis the students chose for their experimental question. All Science Fair projects must be finalized before then so that the students have enough time to break down their topic, organize their thoughts and decide on a plan for doing their research.

This week has been very busy.  Students have a few activities that may be very helpful.  First is organize the binders.  In the previous entry I listed what was to be on each page.  There are extra copies in my "Files and Documents" tab.  Another great activity for 1st - 5th period is to review their notes and prepare for the test on Thursday.  They also have a Dialogue sheet to share and be signed by you.  6th period will get their dialogue sheet on Monday.  6th Period took their test today and I have posted the grades.  Students are welcome to retake any Standard.  Have a great weekend.
