The Gainesville wrestling team closed out its 2018 regular season with a thrilling 47-35 dual meet victory over Reagan.  The meet came down to the very last match, with Donovan Sprouse clinching the victory by pinning his opponent early in the second period.  The meet started on a rough note for the Hawks, coming away with one win, courtesy of Wyatt Carter,  in the first five weight classes.  After that, Gainesville started firing on all cylinders.  Austin Zehring ran his season record to 6-0 by winning a hard fought match.  Josh Cilla came out on the positive end of a back-and-forth match that had to be settled in overtime.  Nic Miozzi followed up with a pinfall victory, taking his record to 5-0.  Vincenzo Corvetto then put the Hawks ahead for good by pinning his opponent, taking his season record to 7-0.  Ryland Harris also goes into the regional tournament with a perfect record (6-0) as he scored his way to a technical fall.  Cole Caparella (pinfall) and AJ Waskow also added victories for Gainesville before Sprouse put the meet to bed with his win.  The wrestling Hawks now go into the regional tournament with a dual meet record of 5-2 and a lot of wrestlers aiming for a high place on the podium.  The Western Regional Wrestling Tournament is one week away, on Saturday March 10 at Manassas Park High School.  Wrestling will start at 9:00, come on out and support the boys as they go for the championship.

The Gainesville wrestling team kicked off two dual meets in two days with a 58-30 victory over a game Stonewall team.  The Hawks started off the scoring when Tyson Kochis defeated his opponent by technical fall.  The team then hit a bump in the road, dropping the next four matches.  The boys then got back on the right track by stringing together 8 consecutive victories.  Austin Zehring, Josh Cilla, Tyren Hinton, Keith Jenkins, Vincenzo Corvetto, and AJ Waskow all won via pinfall; with Ryland Harris and Coleson Caparella also adding to the win total.  Donovan Sprouse ended the dual meet on a positive note, as he pinned his opponent at the start of the second period.  There is no rest for the weary, as the Hawks turn right around and travel to Manassas Park tomorrow.

The Gainesville wrestling team suffered its first loss of the season in a back-and-forth dual with Marsteller.  The Hawks started out fast with wins from Tyson Kochis and Colin Alderman.  Then, in the middle of the dual, wins from Austin Zehring, Tyren Hinton, Nic Miozzi, Vincenzo Corvetto, and Ryland Harris put Gainesville ahead in team points.  The Bulldogs came firing back with three wins in a row, sealing the meet.  Donovan Sprouse ended the evening on a positive note for the Hawks, ending the team scoring with a victory via pinfall.  Zehring, Hinton, Miozzi, Corvetto, Harris, and Sprouse all remain undefeated on the season.  The team will continue their season next week with back to back duals at home against Stonewall on Thursday and then traveling to Manassas Park on Friday.

The Gainesville wrestling team traveled to Parkside on Tuesday and won their first of two dual meets this week by defeating the Panthers by a score of 54-33.  Winners for the Hawks were Avan Ali, Wyatt Carter, Austin Zehring, Josh Cilla, Tyren Hinton, Nic Miozzi, Vincenzo Corvetto, Ryland Harris, Cole Caparella, and Donovan Sprouse.   On Thursday the Hawks went to Bull Run and racked up their second dual meet victory of the week when the defeated a short-handed Eagles team.  Big winners for the Hawks were Colin Alderman, Avan Ali, Wyatt Carter, Austin Zehring, Tyren Hinton, Nic Miozzi, Vincenzo Corvetto, and Ryland Harris.  Also contributing to the overwhelming victory were Tyson Kochis, Darin Vanier, Cole Caparella, AJ Waskow, Josh Yoho, and Donovan Sprouse.  The team’s next dual meet is back at home next Thursday when they host Marsteller.

The Gainesville wrestling team started out their 2018 campaign with an overwhelming 69-17 victory over an undermanned Metz squad.  Wyatt Roy, Cole Caparella, and Donovan Sprouse picked up pinfall victories for the Hawks while Josh Yoho added in a solid win via decision.  Tyson Kochis, Colin Alderman, Wyatt Carter, Darin Vanier, Austin Zehring, Nic Miozzi, Vincenzo Corvetto, and Chase Campbell also contributed to the team victory.  Also winners in exhibition matches were AJ Waskow, Tyren Hinton, Keith Jenkins, and Muhammad Adil.  The wrestling team's next dual meet is this Tuesday when they travel to Parkside.
