Hawks end their Flight

There is a negative side to reaching the apex, summit, peak, or mountain top.

There is only one way to go after.  And that way, we did.
After playing 2 straight nearly mistake free ball, we struggled to make the best decisions verse an intense and talented team. Turnovers were our nemesis once again. Playing a team as good as we did (undefeated Marsteller), they will make you pay for turnovers.
There were some good things. Nakailey Daniels played some solid aggressive minutes.  As did Elena Gliem and Natalie Dyson.  All three grabbed between 5 and 7 rebounds.
The season is over, I can proudly say, without question, each girl is a better player than in January. They grew as a team and that is the biggest reason why coaches coach.

Hawks Fly over the Mustangs

The last time we played Reagan we were beaten by 18 points and had struggles in a variety of areas, mainly taking care of the ball.
I am super proud to say Sehe Praveen, Lucy Hauter, and Elena Gliem took care of the ball. Only 5 turnovers verse a half court (and full court at times) trap. 10+ less than the first matchup. Great data. Sehe and Lucy also scored from the foul line.  Elena had 10 points from all over.
The star of the game was Nyah White. An amazing 15 rebounds and some amazing post up moves to lead the scoring with 11 points. 8 in the 3rd quarter to allow us to separate. Natelie Dyson also grabbed some rebounds with 6 of her own. She also scored a couple of buckets. Lily Alkujah scored 5 points and should have scored more-she has the scars to prove it.
My favorite part was seeing girls, who did nothing wrong and yet did not play much if at all, cheering and celebrating the win.
Believe it or not, after some early season struggles, we play for the regional title Wednesday at Marsteller.

Hawks fall verse BRMS

Your Hawks fought all game but came up a few baskets and foul shots short.
We set a school record for foul shots in a game by taking 39 of them.  Glass half full=This is a positive sign of our aggression with the ball. Glass half empty=We missed 24 of them.  Which is weird, because we work free throws every day and we usually are just over 55% overall.
Glass half full=We cut our turnovers in half from the last time we played Bull Run. Massive improvement there. Glass half empty=We struggled to make our shots and properly set up our plays.
Leading the way for us were Elena Gliem (7 points), Nyah White (6 points and 6 rebounds) and Natelie Dyson (6 points 7 rebounds). These 3 all made half or better of their free throws. A special tip of the cap to Sehe Praveen and Lucy Hauter who only had 6 turnovers between them .They handled the ball all game verse a press or tight man-to-man coverage. Sehe added 4 steals and Lucy 3. Also scoring were Maddie Henry, Lucy, Sehe, Lilly Alkhujah, and Nakaily Daniels.
We will play our last 2 games next week at Reagan and Marsteller. Meet you there.

Hawks prey on the Tigers

Congratulations goes out to our Big Birds on their victory at Nokesville. Every girl played significant minutes to help our cause. We had a few hiccups on both ends of the floor but tightened it up quickly. Kudos to them.
Leading the way for the Hawks were Jenny Cumba (6 points 6 rebounds) and Nyah White (7 points 6 rebounds).
Taking care of the ball leading us to a season low in turnovers were Sehe Praveen, Lucy Hauter, and Elana Gliem. They all scored for us as well. Also scoring were Natalie Dyson (who had some nice short jump shots and post ups), Nakailey Daniels, and Lily Alkhujah.
We are not certain about the date of our next game due to some needed maneuvering. Stay tuned.

Hawks take a big leap forward with win against Metz

We moved on from our tough game and focused on the many simple parts of the game which can get overlooked.
We came away with a convincing victory over visiting Metz to start the official part of our season with a bang. We are 1-0.
It all started with our "bigs" not allowing second shots and getting the ball, calmly, to our guards.  Nyah White and Natalie Dyson led the way with 7 rebounds each. Maddie Henry and Jenny Cumba each snagged 5 themselves.
The most impressive stat was Zuri Jeffcoat's 7 (seven) steals.  My favorite stat, by far, was our turnovers. We had 1/4th of what we had yesterday. Bravo girls! Especially Sehe, Lucy, and Elena who had most of the ball handling duties.
We had 10 girls score. Leading the way were Lilly Alkujah and Nyah White who each had 7 points. Elena Gliem, Natalie Dyson, and Sehe Praveen had 6 points each. Scoring 2 baskets were Lucy Hauter and Maddie. Nakailey Daniels and Jenny Cumba also scored.
We travel to Nokesville next week. We hope to continue positive habits Monday.

Hawks fall verse Marsteller

We struggled in most facets of the game. Especially taking care of the ball, knowing our plays, and rebounding. We will continue to work on these things.
We move forward starting now. We play Metz tomorrow where we will improve on said facets.

Hawks fall short verse Mustangs

Your Hawks fought from tip to buzzer but came up short verse a very strong Reagan team.
We gave them all they could handle in quarter one as we were led by Maddie Henry who blocked 2 shots, scored, and grabbed 3 rebounds in the quarter. Lucy Hauter scored 4 points in that quarter (6 overall). Lucy had a steady game adding 6 rebounds and handled the ball well.  Lily Alkuhjah grabbed 5 rebounds as well. Our top rebounder was Nyah White who snagged 6. Leading our team defensiley was Nakaily Daniels who had 3 steals. She also scored 2 points.
Also scoring for us were Zuri Jeffcoat, Eliana Brower, and Sehe Preveen.
We host Marsteller next week to try to continue our improved ways.

Hawks grounded verse Eagles

Your varsity Lady Hawks came out with a bang to start our first game of the year.  We jumped out to an 8-3 lead after quarter one. Patience on offense and good overall defense led our way.  Unfortunately for us, we essentially matched those points the rest of the way (9 points in final 3 quarters).
Our biggest issue was turnovers.  There were probably a lot of nerves with the packed house and loud noise for our first game. We will get better there.  It was our first game, it was their (BRMS) 3rd game.
Leading the way for us was Elana Gliem who had one heckuva game. She showed us the way by diving on the floor, forcing several jump balls, and scoring 11 points. She also led our team in rebounds (5), steals (5), and assists (1).
Also scoring were Lilly Alkuhjah, Lucy Hauter, and Sehe Preveen.
We look to right some of the issues we had and keep growing as we host Reagan Wednesday.
