Hawks over Bulldogs

Inspired by the awesome play of the JV boys, our Varsity boys balled up and ended their season with a big "W".
Leading the way were my big 3.
Blake Sloan had a season high 12 points and a super- impressive 14 rebounds. He is so determined to get that ball for his team. I love it!
Kris Bethell scored a few baskets, but his defense and assists were what were so impressive. He had a season high 7 assists hooking up his teammates with some easy buckets.
Devan Howe played his steady defense and attacking offense scoring a team high 18 points. 9 of them in the 3rd quarter when we pulled away for good.
Their good play to start the game, along with Jayden Taylor (4 points) and Sebastian Daniel's (2 points) help, gave us our comfortable lead.
Also scoring were Tausa'afia Morrissette, Sylar Pena, Benicio Rodriguez, Myles Trammell (one of his baskets came on a sweet pick and roll), and Mattox Ratcliffe.

 Hawks lose to the Mustangs

Very strange.
We worked hard at practice to better defend against a big man since he was high scorer verse us in the scrimmage. We also wanted to limit their guards who each scored in double digits last game.
Well. Goals achieved. All 3 of those players scored less points than last time.
What's strange you ask?
Despite achieving our goals, we still lost by an amount we have never lost in my 13 years.
Our problem tonight was shooting. Aside from Kris Bethel (8 points) and Jayden Taylor (4 points),  we could not buy a bucket. Those two kept it a competitive first 3 quarters. Despite our offense woes, and thanks to our tight defense, We were down by just 3 baskets going into the final quarter.   Then they pulled away. Several missed close shots as well as long shots for us. What made it worse was they started hitting more of their shots.  As they started to pull away, we had to switched to man to man, and they pulled away even more. We only scored 2 buckets in the second half. No recipe for success there.
It happens though. A bad night shooting. Tip of the cap to Reagan who is undefeated for a reason. They also played great defense.
We wrap up our season Thursday here verse Marsteller. Meet us here.

Hawks come up a bit short verse BRMS.

I am very proud of our boys who left it all on the court as we again came up just short verse Bull Run.  Special props go to  Jayden Taylor.  Who, because of his practice work the past week, got into our starting lineup for a big game. It was he was big. He led our team with 16 points. He scored in every quarter and had 3 steals. He made sure I could not take him out. He snagged 6 rebounds and got to the foul line 6 times. Did I mention he drained 2 3-pointers to boot?
Devan Howe played his usual solid game. Adding 8 points and taking care of the ball a lot of the game.
Kris Bethel stepped up to my second half challenge and played a great second half getting us 6 points and a few assists.
Blake Sloan, despite early foul trouble, had an impressive 8 rebounds and also scored. Syler Pena scored,  his and Aiden Ruth's hustle kept us in the game.
We travel to Reagan next week and finish at home verse Marsteller next Thursday.

Hawks hit their peak so far verse Unity Braxton

Congrats goes out to your Hawks on their convincing win over Unity Braxton. 10 players scored and our defense was superb.
Aiden Ruth led the way with 4 steals. He also scored a bucket early. Sebastion Daniel, Blake Sloan, Karsten Sandoff, Tausa'afia Morrisette, and Jayden Taylor all had multiple steals as well.
Our top scorers were Tuasa'afia, and Jayden with 9 points.  Benicio Rodriguez had an impressive 7 second half points. Also scoring were Devan Howe, Sacai Brown, Myles Trammell, Sylar Pena, Karsten, and Mattox Ratcliff.
Sacai was our top rebounder securing 6 rebounds. Blake grabbed 5 in his limited minutes.
Big game here at The Nest next week as we look to avenge a preseason overtime loss verse Bull Run.. Our season is on the line. Come on out and support our boys.

Hawks Soar Verse the Tigers

Funny story. ..but true.
I came across this magical Holiday lantern in the gym this morning. I dusted it off and a Genie, who looked just like Santa, came out in a puff of greenish red smoke.
He said  "Thank you for letting me out. You get 2 wishes".
I said. "Great"!   I heard about these stories but never thought they were true.
"My boys basketball team have been playing well, but we keep coming up short in big games". I wish for a little more luck, effort, and makes for my team.
"POOF" Granted.
All 13 guys played and played hard. Guys who had been playing for a lot of minutes were able to rest up.
Top rebounders, which to me is the ultimate hustle stat, were Myles Trammell, Jayden Taylor, and Sebastian Daniel who all had 6 rebounds.  Leading the way on defense with 3 steals each were Karsten Sandoff and Kris Bethell. Our top assist man was Benicio Rodriguez with 3.
Leading the way with strong down low buckets was Myles Trammell with 9 points. Devan Howe set the pace early with 2 3-pointers in the first quarter which is where we began to separate. He added a bucket later. Kris Bethell nailed a  3-pointer as well. So did Sebastian Daniel.  Also scoring were Mattox Ratcliffe, Tausa'afia Morrisette, Sylar Pena, Sacai Brown,  and Blake Sloan.
Not to be forgotten were the big minutes Jayden Taylor played- adding 4 points and some big boards as well.
My second wish?
I hope everyone has a safe and happy break.

Metz sneaks by in the first regular season game of the year.

Your boys played their hearts out and just came up short. We were undersized most of the game and yet we had a small lead from the tip to halfway through the 4th quarter. Our shot went cold in the 4th as we did not make a single field goal and lost by 3 points.
We had our season high in turnovers which hurt as well, however, we created more than we had.
Props to Blake Sloan who dove, pushed, and battled his way to a season high 14 rebounds. Aiden Ruth and Devan Howe each added 6 rebounds to help us control the ball verse the bigger opponents. Kris Bethell and Aiden led the way with 3 assists each. Devan had an impressive 5 steals too.
Leading the way on offense was Sebastian Daniel with 7 points. Highlighted by 2 three pointers to help us maintain our 3rd quarter lead. Devan had 6 points, Kris had 4, Karsten Sandoff had 2 points and 3 rebounds in a short time. Blake added 4 points and Myles Trammell had 1.

Hawks over the Dogs

We have been out done verse other teams' big players our last 2 games. As luck wouldn't have it...Our two biggest boys were out sick today.
We busted our butts working on boxing out at practice yesterday to try and remedy the problem. And it worked.
Despite being undersized, we ran away with the game at Marsteller MS. Our leading rebounders were Sebastian Daniel and Aiden Ruth who each had 7 rebounds. They are far from our biggest guys usually playing the guard position. Great work boys! Aiden was also our top assists guy with 4. Sacai Brown and Jayden Taylor each added 6 rebounds of their own.
"T" Morrisette and Benicio Rodriguez slashed their way to the hoop multiple times each leading us in scoring with 9 and 8 points. Jayden also added 7 points. Devan Howe played solid defense and scored 6 points for us. Also scoring were Kris Bethel, Aiden, Sylar Pena (first bucket of the game to set the tone), and Jayden.
This  was a good time to put it together since we start the "real" part of our season here at the Nest Monday verse a strong Metz team. Meet you there.

Hawks  grounded by the Mustangs

We came up short verse the Mustangs. We know what we need to get better at...and we will.  Everyone played at least  a quarter during the "scrimmage". I do not have the scorebook so am unsure about points. Points are a result of the real stats.  Rebounds, asissts, and steals.
Leading the way in rebounds was Blake Sloan with 7.  Devan Howe and Aiyden Ruth helped our defense with 3 steals each. Aiden also led the team along with Karsten Sandoff in assists with 3 each.
We travel to Marsteller Wednesday, we hope to see you there.

Hawks fall short verse Eagles

Your boys fought and fought verse a very strong Bull Run team and came up short in overtime. We had some foul trouble, but we still had our chances to put them away.
I promise we will work hard so when the game counts next time (this was a "scrimmage") we will be better.
It will be hard for Myles Trammell or Kris Bethell to play better though. They were both lights out.  Myles had a loud 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Kris had a team leading 14 points, 3 assists and took care of the ball all game.
Devan Howe was super steady with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. He also calmly took care of the ball.
Blake Sloan was a monster on the boards grabbing 12 in only 6 minutes or so as he got called for some ticky-tack fouls. He had a nice put-back and a free throw as well.
Syler Pena made sure he showed me he couldn't come out of the game .He hustled and fought on both ends of the court, adding 6 points of his own.
Also scoring were Sebastian Daniel, Sacai Brown, and Jaden Taylor.
We have our first home game Monday verse an equally strong Reagan team. See you here, at the Nest.

Hawks over the Jags

A mighty congratulations goes out to your varsity boys on their convincing victory at Unity Braxton MS,
These boys showed that if one part of our game is off, do more on the other part to help the team.
Our shots just were not falling. Many good decisions and very good open shots. Many of them just did not fall.
What we made sure of was that our defense did not slump.
We pulled away thanks to steals from Sylar Pena (4), Devan Howe (6), and Taus Morrissette (7).
Crushing it on the boards were Devan (6), Blake Sloan (7), and Myles Trammell(7).
We would have more assists, but so many shots just did not drop this time.
We had 8 players who scored points. Leading the way were Devan (12) and Taus (7). Sylar and Myles added 5 points each. Also scoring were Kris Bethell, Karsten Sandhoff, Jayden Taylor, and Blake.
We match up next Wednesday to the tough Bull Run team.
