Dear Gainesville Middle School Families and Staff,

I am looking forward to welcoming students and staff back to in person learning on January 3, 2022. Yesterday, families and staff received a letter from our Superintendent which provided information on the Division’s efforts to prioritize safety and bolster mitigation strategies to minimize the spread of COVID-19.

As a school community we will continue to adhere to the following mitigation strategies:

  • Students and staff will be required to wear masks in accordance with Division guidelines.
  • Utilize the daily home screening guidance.
  • Follow existing Division quarantine guidelines.
  • Promoting proper hygiene including handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes.
  • Personal protective equipment/masks (PPE) available to students and staff.
  • Use of seating charts and small group podding for contact tracing in the cafeteria.
  • Social distancing of 3-6 feet when possible.

Please talk with your student and remind them of the guidance and the requirement to wear a properly fitting mask over their nose and mouth at all times (except when outside, actively engaged in physical education, and while eating in the cafeteria while seated at their assigned table).

Although the CDC released updated quarantine guidelines, the Division’s existing quarantine policy will remain in effect. The Division is actively working with the Prince William Health District and the Virginia Health Department to incorporate updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, and we will communicate any changes to our quarantine guidance once it becomes available.

Our school is working collaboratively with Division leadership to plan for the distribution of COVID-19 home test kits. We expect to have home test kits available for student and staff distribution as soon as Friday, January 7, 2022. Due to limited supply, at-home COVID-19 test kits will only be available to students and staff who are exhibiting symptoms. Additional information on the distribution process is forthcoming.

Canvas will be regularly updated, and technology devices will continue to be available for students who may need access should there be a need for a classroom or class-section to transition to virtual due to quarantine. For more information on technology access please contact Mrs. Lindsay Kraus at KrausLN@pwcs.eduor Mr. Loren Parks at

As a reminder, please continue to monitor your child for any symptoms of COVID-19. To mitigate the risk of spread, individuals who are symptomatic should stay home. The PWCS daily home screening guidance can be found on our website.

We thank you for your understanding, partnership, and engagement as our school community continues to provide a quality education while prioritizing the safety of all staff and students.
